(02/28/06) EDISON ? Several parents in the Menlo Park section of Edison plan to fight the board of education over its school redistricting plan.
The plan would move approximately 140 students to different schools this September. Some parents say they are furious their children may have to uproot to a new school, leaving behind close friends in the process. Education officials say redistricting is necessary to fight the problem of overcrowding in schools. They also say that problem was made worse after a referendum to add classrooms was voted down by residents last year.
Although some parents are upset over the issues, others are actually happy to have their child?s class sizes reduced. The board of education refused to comment on the redistricting plan. Many residents in Edison plan on fighting the issue with a petition.
