East Orange is among the many communities in New Jersey that are hosting free events in celebration of the 157th anniversary of Juneteenth.
Students in the city have the day off today to honor the holiday. Many people are expected to come out to Rowley Park for a community celebration from 12-6 p.m.
The event will include live entertainment and DJs, food and clothing vendors, dancing and activities, plus a kids corner inside of Rowley Park where kids can play games and learn about the significance of Juneteenth.
“We are very excited because of the historical significance and the importance of Juneteenth nationally,” said Jamal Pearson, of the Department of Recreation and Cultural Affairs. “It's going to be a hot day, so hydrate. We have plenty of beverages for everybody. Come on out, East Orange. Bring your bucket hat, shades...let's have fun.”
