Dumont town leaders say the crossing at New Milford Avenue is deteriorating despite asking CSX Transportation to repair it.
They say they’ve asked the company to makes improvements on the Bergen County crossing for three years.
CSX recently put asphalt along the crossing, but officials it is only a temporary solution.
Dumont Borough Administrator Tom Richards says, "The tracks are held together by railroad ties which are disintegrating and rotting away. The tracks literally bounce up and down as the cars go by, and when the trains go by, it's frightening."
News 12 reached out to CSX for comment but hasn’t heard back yet.
