DUMBO Drop event held at Manhattan Bridge to benefit area schools

The fourth annal DUMBO Drop kicked off just as the sun set in Brooklyn Saturday.
About 2,500 elephant figures attached to parachutes were dropped from the Manhattan Bridge.
The purchase of each of them raised funds for Title 1 schools located in DUMBO.
All of them were purchased one by one at $20 each to raise money as 70% of children from the area live at or below the poverty line.
The president of the DUMBO Improvement District Alexandria Sica said this was one of the largest turnouts yet.
In the past, the event raised over $100,000 and this year organizers hoped to hit a record high in donations.
