The driver in a deadly crash in North Brunswick early Friday morning has been identified as a 26-year-old New Brunswick man.

Officials say that Peter Garay Jr. was involved in a crash with another vehicle on Route 130 near the Renaissance Boulevard intersection.

Police say that when emergency services arrived they found the two cars had sustained heavy damage. Garay was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other driver was trapped in his vehicle and had to be freed by the North Brunswick Fire Department. That driver, whose identity was not released, was taken to the hospital with injures that did not appear to be life-threatening.

Route 130 was closed for about two hours following the crash.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
