The DreamWorks Water Park at American Dream Mall has reopened a week after four people were hurt by a fallen decoration.
The park had been temporarily closed since a helicopter display on the ceiling fell into a swimming pool on Sunday, resulting in four people suffering minor injuries.
An investigation by the Department of Community Affairs and a third-party engineering firm has since concluded that it is safe to reopen.
A release from the DCA Affairs stated that their two-part inspection found “damage on the wire rope used to suspend the helicopter was a direct contributing factor to the cause of the wire rope’s failure.”
The release mentions that the helicopter feature has been permanently removed and “the firm also deemed the current remaining features to be structurally sound and safe for continued use…All attractions located in the waterpark at American Dream have been released by DCA to continue operation to the public.”
A representative with American Dream has told News 12 that bookings for the waterpark's reopening have exceeded their expectations and they are excited to see guests enjoy the facility.
