Dozens of animals found in horrific conditions at Edison home

The total number according to police are 14 dogs, 60 chickens, 34 rabbits, nine pigeons and other assorted birds.

Edison police responded to a medical call at a home on Stony Road West Sunday night to discover a significant amount of animals living in unsanitary conditions.

One of the two males in the home were dealing with a medical issue. However, this was when all of these animals were found living in squalor.

The front of the home is lined with cages, and in the driveway is a large storage container. It is believed that many of the animals had been living in the basement of this house. The total number according to police are 14 dogs, 60 chickens, 34 rabbits, nine pigeons and other assorted birds. At this time, the animal shelter successfully relocated all of the animals.

The fire chief says that there were also rats found in the home. The home has since been condemned, the power turned off and the house now being vented.

The Edison Police Detective Bureau along with the Edison Animal Control Unit are continuing their investigation. There is no danger at this time to other residences in the area. The homeowner has been arrested for animal cruelty.
