(06/06/06) DOVER ? Residents in Dover Township say their patience with the local water company has run dry.
Officials in the township say they?ve compiled many examples of what the mayor calls ?incompetence? on the part of United Water Toms River. Dover leaders are filing suit for an independent third party to come in and run the company. Mayor Paul Brush says the most recent complaint involves water levels, or lack thereof, in two water towers over the Memorial Day holiday. The mayor says the towers ran dry, which caused aggravation and potential fire hazards.
United Water Toms River has made headlines in the past year and half, and not always for the best of reasons. Stories have emerged about the company failing to report high levels of radiation in the water to the public, for using more water than the state allowed and for illegally extending water mains. They have also been accused of tampering with water quality tests. Representatives of the company did not return phone calls for comment.
