A man from Dover is facing several charges after being accused of leading police on a chase Monday while driving drunk.
Police say Keith Smith, 55, drove into a police car in Denville on Route 10 and injured an officer.
Around midnight, police say officers attempted to get Smith to stop his vehicle but were unsuccessful. They say another officer positioned his patrol car to stop all oncoming traffic on Route 10 West at Mount Pleasant Turnpike. As Smith approached this officer's location, police say he failed to yield to the police lights and sirens and collided with the stopped police vehicle.
Officials say Smith displayed signs of intoxication. They say the officer and Smith were both treated at the hospital for minor injuries and later released.
Smith was arrested and processed at police headquarters and later released pending a future court appearance in the Morris County Superior Court. He was issued several motor vehicle summonses, including driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and careless driving.
