(03/01/06) DOVER ? A new measure in Dover will force many of the town?s taxis to go off duty for good.
One out of every six cars in the town is a cab, and Dover officials believe that?s simply too much yellow on the road. A new ordinance limits the number of taxis among the town?s five cab companies to 12 vehicles each. Leaders hope to significantly lessen traffic problems through the cut in cab numbers.
Despite the good intentions of town officials, many residents aren?t happy at all. Those who rely on taxis for transportation say it will be much more difficult to hail a cab due to the measure.
