Questions are being raised about whether the proper procedures were followed involving the death of a Bronx toddler. Police say 2-year-old Sharllene Marillo died at the hands of her mother?s boyfriend, Paul Jimenez. The child?s pediatrician confirmed when he last examined the girl, he noticed bruises on her body and sent her to Montefiore Medical Center. The doctor also said he told a hospital resident that he thought the child had been abused but failed to notify officials at the Administration for Children's Services (ACS), which is required by law. Now, Mayor Bloomberg is calling for a full investigation into the child?s death. Jimenez has been charged with assault and endangering the welfare of a child. The Bronx district attorney's office may upgrade the charges to homicide. Jimenez is due back in court August 4.
