The New Jersey Devils are hoping to get their first win of the season when they face the Philadelphia Flyers Wednesday.
It has been a rough start for the hockey team -- first blowing a four-goal lead against Winnipeg and then giving up seven goals to Buffalo.
Head coach John Hynes says he still has high expectations for the team.
“You have to respect everyone's skill set on the team. The game isn't all rush and saucer passes and one-timers, you have to have guys who play the game too and are going to bring different components to a team,” Hynes says. “And we feel like we have that. We're expecting a better performance and much more of a team performance.”
Hynes changed the lineup this week during practice and placed rookie Jack Hughes on the same line as players Blake Coleman and Wayne Simmonds.
“It's exciting to get my first two out of the way. But 80 more to go, so I think I'm just getting comfortable with every game,” Hughes says. “We have a lot of new faces, so for us, it's going to be a process but hopefully we can get it going.”
Simmonds says that he is ready to play against the Flyers, having played for the team for eight seasons previously. He was signed by the Devils in the offseason.
“Obviously it is a rivalry, a natural rivalry - the Devils against the Flyers. So now it's my turn to see it from this side, this point of view and I'm excited to get it going,” he says.
The Devils play the Flyers Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
