The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection says it will start collecting soil, gas and groundwater samples as it investigates a potential cancer cluster in Keyport.

DEP teams will investigate 13 sites in Keyport and three in Union Beach to determine if there is contamination that could create a pathway for human exposure.

Keyport residents dissatisfied with the first round of environmental test results heard the results from an independent team last week.

Community members have reported more than 400 cancer cases they believe could be connected to the former Aeromarine Landfill.

The independent testing found forever chemicals like PCBs, dioxins and PFAS.
