Democrats are renewing their calls for Sen. Bob Menendez to step down one day after learning he is facing new federal charges.

New Jersey’s senior senator is accused of accepting gifts to help the nation of Qatar.

Rep. Andy Kim announced in November that he will run for Menendez’s seat. He says that the latest charges shocked him.

“I am very concerned,” Kim said. “I have called for an expulsion vote. I believe the situation merits it.”

Other Democrats have announced plans to run for Menendez’s seat, including labor leader and activist Patricia Campos-Medina and first lady Tammy Murphy.

Menendez has yet to announce if he will seek reelection. He has denied all of the charges against him.
