An Irish barber who has dubbed himself the world’s first “dementia friendly” barber passed through New Jersey Thursday.
Lenny White is a mobile barber who travels the country giving haircuts to people who have dementia in hospitals and nursing homes. He visited the Chelsea at Montville Thursday.
"I will try to make it a relaxed atmosphere for the men. These guys can sometimes be agitated and feeling quite low, so my job is to make them feel good, but also to make them look good,” White says.
White uses authentic barbershop cologne and even plays older songs on his jukebox for his clients. He does it all for free.
“I give them a good haircut - Do their eyebrows, their ears, their nose hair and really have a good chat with these men to get them to open up and really enjoy the experience,” says White.
