The demand for generators is skyrocketing after thousands of people were left without power for days in the wake of Tropical Storm Isaias.
After four and a half long days in the dark, Sandy Finklestein and her partner Jay are now looking into buying a generator for their Manalapan home.
"We just got to thinking how important it is for elderly people to have power," said Finklestein. "Jay's hearing aids are plugged in and don't go on battery."
David Weedy, with Restore Electic in Jackson, says the phone has been ringing off the hook for generator installation and repairs.
It is recommended that a generator is installed by certified professionals, but for anyone installing on their own, Weedy says always make sure the unit is outside to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
A portable generator costs a few hundred dollars. A full home system could cost around $12,000, but realtors say it does add to the property value.
