The firefighters in the Shrewsbury Hose Company are happy with their new state-of-the-art facility, but say they won?t be celebrating any time soon.
Firefighters say the old building on Broad Street was falling apart and had a bad roof. They add the building, which was torn down to make way for the new one, was also too small for the company. The new facility now has four bays and is twice the size of the old building. The new house cost $2.9 million, which came from a grant by the Monmouth County Utility Authority.
Though they seem to be fitting in at the new firehouse, firefighters say they aren?t in the mood to celebrate after losing one of their own Friday. Twenty-five-year veteran Henry Haines passed away at the age of 74. Firefighters say he did a lot for the company and will be missed.
