“Eat a sub, make a difference” — the mission today for Jersey Mike’s annual Day of Giving.
Jersey Mike’s Subs is looking to raise $25 million for charities in New Jersey. The restaurant company donates 100% of sales to over 200 local charities nationwide.
News 12 New Jersey's Jim Murdoch visited the original Jersey Mike's Subs where it all began decades ago in Point Pleasant Beach to find out more information about the event.
Founder Peter Cancro came up with the giving idea in 2011. Since then, the stores have raised more than $88 million for local charities.
Most stores will donate to The Valerie Fund, an organization that helps provide children with medical care at centers close to their homes. Jersey Mike's Subs announced Wednesday it will pledge $500,000 to The Valerie Fund in addition to the amount raised.
Sales in New Jersey on Wednesday will also help benefit Ryan's Quest and the Rutgers Dance Marathon, in addition to more than 200 local charities nationwide.
