A Brooklyn resident says her mother and grandparents are stuck in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol, saying the phone rings but hasn’t heard an answer for five days.
The city has been under heavy Russian shelling since the invasion started.
“The last time I spoke with my mom, it was 4:30 p.m. on March 2 and there was already no heating, water, electricity,” said Antonina Skobina.
Skobina is a professional ballroom dancer and has been tearfully addressing the world through her Instagram page. She’s been asking for help for her family and many others cut off due to the relentless attacks by Russian forces.
“I heard the shellings and bombings myself and it was the most horrendous experience I ever had in my life,” said Skobina.
She says her mother hasn’t been seen online since last Wednesday.
"The city is just completely cut off from the world. Nobody has a connection. Everyone in Mariupol – 450,000 people are just trapped. There are no green corridors, they cannot exit the city,” said Skobina.
Skobina says she’s living her personal nightmare and watching helplessly from thousands of miles away, not knowing where her loved ones are.
