The curtain will come down on
the Broadway musical “Come From Away” in less than a month after the production
announced its closure.
Longtime cast members in the
show, which is inspired by real events following the Sept. 11 terror attacks,
say they will miss bringing their characters to life at the Gerald Schoenfeld
Theatre.
“At first, I was feeling a lot of grief, but as
we get closer to the end, I'm topped up with gratitude and I'm trying to make mental
pictures in my mind when I'm on stage," says Astrid Van Wieren.
Wieren has performed in the Broadway production
since its premiere in 2017.
The musical is set in Newfoundland, where Canadians living in the tiny town of
Gander opened their community and their hearts to some 7,000 grounded
airline passengers diverted to Gander's Airport beginning Sept. 11, 2001.
The musical, which received the Tony
Award for best direction of a musical and numerous other Tony nominations, is
scheduled to play its final Broadway performance Oct. 2.
