Crews reel in dangling snowplow truck in Elizabeth
Fire crews have reeled in a dangling snow plow truck that nearly ended up in the Elizabeth River Monday morning.
The crash happened just before 8 a.m. in a parking lot near 80 West Grand St. in Elizabeth.
People who work nearby say that the plow driver Antonio Ruiz has been plowing the parking lot for years. They say that somehow the truck lost control of its brakes and careened through a metal fence and nearly ended up in the river.
Ruiz was inside the cab of the truck, dangling above the river. Fire crews had to cut a hole in the fence and were able to angle a ladder to allow Ruiz to climb to safety.
Officials say that Ruiz was shaken up, but was not otherwise injured.
The truck was towed away several hours later.
