Create your own custom scents on this Road Trip: Close to Home to Alchemy Scent Bar

In this week's road trip. Close to home news, twelve's Ali Reid and photojournalist, Mike Roberts followed the sent to Montclair picture. This it is a perfect day in Montclair. Maybe you do a little shopping. Maybe you grab a bite to eat and then you find yourself here to alchemy scent bar along Church Street and get ready. Because the second you walk through these doors, your sensory experience. Al Scent bar is a custom scent experience. Smell all five together where customers can come in, create their own custom scent. And then with that scent make products together during COVID, my family took a road trip down to South Carolina and visited a candle bar and I came home and started immediately thinking about it, researching it. And a year later opened the store here in Montclair. When you walk in, you're immediately wowed by the decor and the environment. It really is chic, really fresh. You're immediately greeted by our staff. All right, cat. So walk me through what you would do when you first walk into the store here. Ok. So what you're gonna do is you're gonna grab a clipboard, you're gonna fill out your information at the top and you're gonna smell all of the little testers in front of the candles. Ok. Definitely. Write vanilla bean down. I mean, you can make candles, wax melts as well as home and body products. The idea is to create your own custom oil blend for whatever products you would like to make where you have over 100 different scents. Each scent has its own little tester. The customers are instructed to come down and smell every single cent we tell them, don't think about what you're going to combine, but eventually you're gonna come to the bar and combine a few cents to make your own custom set. So I picked my scent. I got my candle. I'm ready to go. What is the next step once we get over to bar area? Ok. So first I'll set you up with this Jagger which will give you your oil measurements. Our alchemists will be there to help you right through the making of it. So don't stress about it, you're gonna fill to the tippy top of this Jagger. You're gonna use the back end of your spoon to stir as you go along. Also smell it at the tip of your spoon. I think that's pretty on par. I'm thinking maybe just a teeny bit more mahogany. The whole point is to come and make your own scent like an alchemist. I feel like that's perfect. I love it. We're gonna take the candle, fill it with the hot wax. Just kind of dump it in. Like you're basically taking your whole creation and you're gonna stir it, rocking back and forth until it's cloudy. All the way through the candles. Take two hours to cure because they're hot wax. Most people come, they go out to get something to eat, they go out to do something and they return later in the day instead of buying somebody a candle, you're coming in here and you're making that memory with that person. It's really special every time the person smells that or lights that candle, it reminds them of that experience. I was looking at like what to do in Mont Clair. And this came up, we were going to just go for lunch and it happened to be right next door to the place that we were having for lunch. So it's perfect. Well, my daughter told me about this place. So we thought we'd give it a try just making it the process of picking your own scents and just putting it all together was a lot of fun. It's been a lot of fun. Ok. So a pretty fun date then. Yes, absolutely. So now this is what your candle will smell like. It smells so good. Yeah, I'm so excited. What makes alchemy scent bar so special is it's not just any store or retail shop. It's an experience and when you come in and you smell a given scent. It transports you back to another time in your life. It transports you back to memories and there's something that is so special about that and irreplaceable. You can't get that anywhere else. All right, I have my candle. It took about two hours to cure it and now it's ready to be brought home. Now, I can think of about a million ways to sum up this travel day. But I think one sentence really takes the cake here for this week's road trip. Close to home. I'm a read. We'll call you later.
