? Governor Jon Corzine (D-NJ) announced incentives at the capitol Thursday driven toward reducing high gas prices in the Garden State.
Corzine said his administration is considering lowering New Jersey?s speed limit to 55 mph to put the brakes on burning gas. The governor is also debating whether to ask the legislature to overturn a 1949 law that bans self-service gas pumps. He is proposing a pilot program along the New Jersey Turnpike to test the theory. Other measures include having pump inspections and expanding mass transit and carpooling initiatives.
The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded in New Jersey is $2.87.
