One day after Asbury Park schools were locked down due to a nearby shooting, Governor Jon Corzine (D-NJ) was in Fort Lee to discuss school security initiatives. Fort Lee school officials say they're vigilant when it comes to student safety. Every student must wear an identification badge, the front door is the only way in or out and there's a school resource officer traveling the hallways. School officials say most students don?t mind the extra security. The state?s initiatives announced by Corzine are similar to the rules Fort Lee already has in place. They include a school security task force where guidelines will be developed for lockdowns and emergencies. They also ask the federal government for tougher gun laws and to increase school resource officers across New Jersey.
