(02/03/06) MANALAPAN ? Residents in a Manalapan community are making sure their neighbors are warned about a convicted sex offender in their neighborhood.
Lawrence Cohen was recently released from prison after serving time for transmitting child pornography on his computer. He was also accused of trying to solicit sex from a child. Cohen has moved back in with his parents in Manalapan, and neighbors aren?t happy.
Residents have taken it upon themselves to warn others about Cohen?s presence and to pass around pictures of the sex offender. Due to law in Manalapan, Cohen?s stay could be very short based on his upcoming threat level assessment. The law states convicted sex offenders of a certain threat level can?t live within 2,500 feet of locations where children gather. Cohen, whose house is near a library, could legally be forced out of the neighborhood if assigned tier-3 status.
