3ds agoA consumer watchdog is pushing for Lunchables to be removed from school lunch programs due to lead and excessive sodium.
Some public schools introduced the popular snack kit by Kraft Heinz as an option last year.
The company said it had to re-formulate the ingredients to ensure they met federal guidelines.
According to Consumer Reports, the Lunchables served at schools are even higher in sodium than those sold in stores.
In Consumer Reports' tests, experts found lead, cadmium, or both in all the kits. None of the kits looked at exceeded any legal or regulatory limit, according to Consumer Reports.
Kraft Heinz says it has taken steps to improve the nutrition profile of Lunchables.
