The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating a job site in Kenilworth where a construction worker suffered a fatal fall into a trench.

Police say the incident happened around 9 a.m. Monday at the site on the 300 block of Monroe Avenue. Authorities say the worker was trapped in mud and concrete.

Officials say they believe the workers were attempting to install a storm drain during an excavation. Rescue attempts were made but were unsuccessful, according to officials.

Neighbors in the area say they heard sirens and knew something was wrong.

"At first you hear a firetruck or two and a police car but then it got to be too much. It was one emergency vehicle after another. And I saw emergency vehicles of every type coming from just about every town around,” said neighbor Bob Woods.

Officials say the victim was an employee of K&D Contractors. The name of the worker was not released.
