Two suspects were taken into custody and two are still on the loose Monday after a suspected car stripping and a high-speed chase in Newark.
Investigators say a resident called police when he saw several men stripping a car on the corner of South 20th Street and 12th Avenue. According to authorities, the four men got into two stolen cars and sped off when police arrived. Police say two officers fired shots at one of the vehicles because the suspects were driving toward them.
According to police, one of the suspects? cars collided with another vehicle and then wrapped around a gas station pole. One suspect suffered a severe head injury and another broke his leg. The remaining two suspects got out of their car and fled on foot.
Both captured suspects are in police custody at UMDNJ and in critical condition. Investigators removed burglary equipment and stolen car parts from the trunk of the crashed vehicle. Police are still searching for the other two suspects.
