When two washing machines broke down at John L. Costley Senior Middle School in East Orange, Principal Dr. Thelma Ramsey Bryant turned to social media for help.
For years, the middle school has offered a free laundry service for students, in order to make sure clean uniforms aren’t a barrier to learning. Students simply drop off their clothes in the morning and pick them up at the end of the day.
According to Dr. Ramsey, five people have offered to donate new washing machines and a couple of people have volunteered to attempt to make repairs to the broken machines.
“Although we do have people who have said they’re going to donate, we’re able to expand the laundry room,” said Dr. Ramsey. “If we have four to five machines, we can even expand it even more to the larger community. We can set up some Saturdays where people can come in and wash. This will just allow another resource for the community.”
If you would like to help the school out with their services, feel free to contact them directly.
