A scuffle between plain-clothes officers and drug suspects in Newark Sunday turned deadly for one man, and has neighbors crying cover-up.
Police say an officer approached the two suspects about 1:30 p.m. at the corner of Irvine Turner Boulevard and Alpine Street, but the men ran. According to authorities, one got away, but cops caught the other. That suspect allegedly reached for a gun and an officer shot him once in the torso. The suspect later died at the hospital.Neighbors, many of whom say they did not actually witness the shooting, say the shot rang out after they saw the suspect in handcuffs. They also say firefighters were called in to wash away blood, but stains remain on the street from other shootings in the neighborhood.
