Coffee shop promotion brings Clark traffic to a crawl

A promotion at a Clark coffee shop drew huge crowds Monday, prompting local police to issue a traffic alert.
Clark police sent out a “travel warning” just after 8 a.m., saying there was “severe traffic congestion due to a large volume of customers at 7 Brew.”
People began lining up at the coffee shop, which opened on Raritan Road in June, after 7 Brew announced plans to give away a free “7 Brew Dough” with coffee purchases.
“There is significant congestion on Westfield Avenue and Raritan Road due to a large volume of customers attempting to enter the parking lot,” Clark police said. “The 7 Brew parking lot will be closed intermittently as needed to relieve traffic congestion.”
The promotional “Brew Dough” is a palm-sized, squishy toy offered in two colors to customers who purchase two medium or large drinks. The promotion runs from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Labor Day through the 7 Brew app.
Police are urging drivers in the area to follow officers’ instructions or avoid the area altogether, if possible.
