A nonprofit Co-op City organization is under investigation for allegedly using public funds for private ventures.

The New York City Department of Investigations received an anonymous letter from a Gloria Wise Boys and Girls Club employee. The staffer claimed executives? salaries were bloated and others were paid, but never showed at the job. In its probe, the city says it uncovered $290,000 of the organization?s funds went toward items like cars and home renovations. Another $875,000 allegedly helped start what is now known as Air America Radio, which investigators say an executive had a financial stake in.

The state attorney general is conducting a probe. Gloria Wise says it has hired a new director and hopes to again gain the public?s trust. The organization's goal is to use public funds to help the elderly and children.
