The National Weather Service confirmed on Monday morning that at least six tornadoes touched down in New Jersey during Saturday’s storms. More surveys were planned to see if that number might be higher.

Public offices and lower-grade schools in Howell Township were closed  Monday following the storm.

The twister that tore through Howell ripped the roof off of one family's home. Residents described trees that fell down "like daggers," and winds that were as loud as trains.

The damage left behind is so severe in some locations that people may not be able to return to their homes for weeks, or even months.

Tens of thousands were left without power at the height of the storms that tore through Jackson, Cinnaminson and Sea Girt. Additional areas are also under investigation for possible tornado damage, including Crosswicks, Cream Ridge and Mays Landing.  

Six Flags Great Adventure theme park was forced to close just a day after its season opening.

The cluster of early April twisters is unprecedented for this time of year, especially in such great numbers.
