The Sept. 11 terror attacks were marked with a challenge at a gym in Clark.
The challenge at Retro Fitness was to climb 2,072 steps on a stair stepper as fast as they could.
Sixteen people took part in the challenge at the gym.
The idea was to mimic what firefighters and police officers did 24 years ago as they stepped inside of the Twin Towers to save those who were trapped.
News 12 spoke with two men taking on the challenge who said they were proud to finish.
Both noted that they did so without any helmets or air tanks on their backs and found it important to get out and mark the day in some way.
“I think everybody should partake in it today especially today it’s the least we could do,” said Joe Cangiano, of Scotch Plains.
Nick Mazur, 18, from Cranford, is the other man taking part.
“It memorializes them and what they did and the sacrifice they made for us to try and save as many people as they could," he says.
Retro Fitness is also collecting donations from all members, with proceeds going to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
