The city is making sure New Yorkers will have adequate shelter if a hurricane hits the Bronx and other boroughs.

The city has spent about $15 million on stockpiles of shelter supplies, according to a New York Post report. The supplies are bundled up in 4,400 pallets currently housed in a New Jersey warehouse.

The city spent money on food, baby formula, water, blankets and pet food. Thousands of nursing kits and cots have also been purchased.

According to the newspaper, an estimated 3 million New Yorkers would have to evacuate in a Katrina-like hurricane. About 600,000 of those evacuees would flood city shelters.
