The city announced that they're extending the hours of the High Bridge for the entire summer, as part of a new pilot program to give New Yorkers even more access to other neighborhoods.

The High Bridge is an iconic landmark that connects the Bronx to Manhattan. It allows New Yorkers to move between each borough by foot. Typically, it closes each night at 8 pm., but with the new pilot program, it will now be open until 10 p.m. for the entire summer.

The city says expanding the hours will allow New Yorkers to keep enjoying the green spaces and public parks that were a lifeline for so many throughout the pandemic.

The High Bridge is New York's oldest standing bridge. It was once closed for four decades but was reopened in 2015. Since then, New Yorkers have relied on it for easy transportation.

As for staying open until 10 p.m. at night, many New York residents have mixed opinions.

The pilot program will continue through September 30. As of right now, there is no word for what will happen after.
