More than 200 students from Jersey City participated in a special Christmas tree competition.
The students were tasked with decorating ornaments that represent their school. It's called the Snowflake Awards. It was the first year that the event has been held since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Students at Dr. Lena Edwards Academic Charter School decorated their tree in honor of a beloved teacher who died from the virus in early 2020.
News 12’s James Gregorio and Roxanne Evans were judges in the competition.
The top three winners got a cash donation to their school’s art department from Landmark Hospitality.
The trees will be on display at the Liberty House Restaurant in Jersey City through the holiday season.
