Choppy waters, familiar fears: City Island braces for nor’easter
Back at the Lobster House, Mandarino says he hopes a new sewer system could help keep floodwaters out.

Businesses along the City Island waterfront are preparing for strong winds, rough water and possible flooding as a nor’easter moves into the region.
Preparations are already underway at the Lobster House.
“Past couple days I made some preparations, put all the tables set aside, covered all my chairs,” Lobster House manager John Mandarino said.
Mandarino says flooding has been an issue in the area before, including during Superstorm Sandy in 2012.
“The water came up over here and came down into the parking lot, into the street, and then there was no way for the water to go,” Mandarino said.
Across the bridge, Sea Shore Lounge and Marina manager John Arminio remembers Sandy bringing only minor flooding to his business.
“I only got a little bit of water… maybe two inches of water in the building. Not even,” Arminio said.
But it’s not the water he’s concerned about.
“More so the wind. That’s what we’re worried about,” Arminio said.
