A 2-year-old girl who was left in a hot minivan at the PATCO train station in Lindenwold has died, according to officials.
The child was discovered unresponsive in a minivan in the parking lot by a passerby Friday afternoon. First responders arrived at the scene to try to resuscitate the child, but they were not successful.
"You hear about that all the time on the news and warnings and now it's getting hot,” says Ashley Iwu of Atco. “Please remember your child in the backseat. Don't even leave them for two minutes. It looks like she had a decent spot so she had probably been here since this morning."
The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and Delaware River Port Authority Police Department are investigating the death.
Police officers were seen speaking with the children’s family members, while the minivan was parked nearby covered with a tarp. The family left the area distraught.
Officials say that it was not clear how long the child had been inside the vehicle.
It was not known if the parents would be facing charges.
