Fried chicken restaurants continue to multiply across Paramus, sparking debate among residents over whether the borough has reached a saturation point for national chain eateries.
With established brands such as Chick-fil-A, Popeyes and Dave’s Hot Chicken already operating in the area, some residents say the growing number of chicken-focused restaurants has become hard to ignore. The discussion has intensified as Raising Cane’s has been proposed as another addition to the borough’s fast-food landscape.
“I think it's definitely oversaturated with chicken,” said Daquan, of Hackensack.
Others see the influx as a positive development, arguing that more restaurants mean more options for diners.
“The more the merrier to me,” said Scott, of Wyckoff. “I love fried chicken.”
Residents remain divided on whether the expansion reflects consumer demand or an overabundance of similar businesses.
“I think it's a little overwhelming,” said Byron, of Teaneck.
The conversation extends beyond food preferences. Some residents expressed concern about the potential impact national chains may have on local businesses.
“I'd personally like to support small businesses,” Byron said. “So, when you see a lot of these chains expanding everywhere, I know it's for sure affecting small businesses.”
Supporters of the restaurant boom point to the wide variety of menu offerings now available throughout Paramus, including chicken sandwiches, wings, tenders and spicy chicken options.
As more chains look to establish a presence in the borough, residents appear split on a simple question: How much fried chicken is too much?
