The man accused of killing his girlfriend's 2-year-old daughter in the Bronx may face upgraded charges.

Police have charged Paul Jimenez with assault and endangering the welfare of a child in the death of Sharllene Marillo. The Bronx district attorney says his office may file murder charges against Jimenez. According to the autopsy, the cause of death was a blunt trauma to the head, which caused a brain hemorrhage.

The toddler's babysitter says she noticed bite marks and bruises on the girl so she reported it to the Kingsbridge Heights Community Center. The center says concerns about Sharllene were passed along to the Administration for Children's Services in mid-June. ACS officials say they received one report but a visit to the home found no solid evidence of abuse.
