Authorities say a chain-reaction crash on Route 1 in Edison has left one person seriously injured and several others hurt.
The southbound crash occurred around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday. Authorities say a tractor-trailer rear-ended a minivan that was stopped in rush-hour traffic, setting off a crash that eventually involved six other vehicles.
Middlesex County prosecutors initially reported Wednesday that one person had been killed in the crash, but they announced Thursday that there were no fatalities.
One person hurt in the crash remained hospitalized Thursday in critical but stable condition. Several other people were treated at the hospital for minor undisclosed injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities say a stretch of the roadway was shut down for several hours.
