The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is warning Americans that this year's flu season could be the worst in years.
Doctors say that as a population, immunity to the flu is lower due to a lower number of cases last year amid the pandemic.
The CDC is urging Americans to get the flu shot as a result, as coronavirus had caused preventative measures to be put in place. Mask mandates and constant disinfecting became part of everyday life and many Americans were working from home - making it less likely to be infected by not just COVID-19, but the flu.
As more COVID-19 measures are being relaxed, doctors hope that hospitals aren't hit by a "twindemic."
A survey released earlier this week by the National Association of Infectious Diseases showed that only 50% of Americans plan on getting the flu shot.
