The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that last year’s flu season was the deadliest in more than 40 years.
The center says that 80,000 people died from the flu. Officials are now recommending that everyone over the age of 6 months should be getting the flu vaccine.
Bergen County health officials held a free flu vaccine clinic Thursday in Hackensack. Dozens of people showed up to get their shot.
“The most important thing is to get vaccinated because you want to protect yourself and your loved ones around you and those who are most vulnerable to getting the flu,” says assistant Bergen County health officer Karen Wolujewicz.
County officials say that they do not have any more plans for free health clinics at this time, but will add more as needed once flu season officially takes off.
