Traffic in Bayonne was backed up Wednesday morning on Route 440 northbound in Bayonne, a major commuter road. A single-vehicle car crash happened on the Center Street overpass above Route 440, just before the Pulaski Street exit.
The vehicle appeared to lose both the driver and passenger side doors and split a utility pole. The car involved was removed from the scene just before 9 a.m.
PSE&G confirmed there were no power outages caused by the accident. It’s expected PSE&G will have work on the utility pole completed by the evening commute.
One lane remained open throughout the incident, but traffic was backed up for much of the morning commute for drivers heading out to the Turnpike or Interstate 78.
There is no word yet if there were any injuries, what caused the crash or if any other vehicles were involved.
