A car erupted in flames Wednesday afternoon, prompting police to shut down Route 130 in South Brunswick while crews worked to extinguish the fire.
Officers were alerted to the fire by a 911 call at about 3:15 p.m., according to the South Brunswick Police Department.
“Officers arrived to find flames consuming the front of a car on the shoulder of the highway. The driver told police he was driving on the highway when he noticed smoke coming from his vehicle,” police said in a statement.
The driver pulled onto the shoulder and saw flames coming from the car.
Crews from the Monmouth Junction Fire Department were called to the scene and quickly extinguished the flames. No injuries were reported to the driver or first responders.
Police shut down Route 130 to all traffic for about 20 minutes while crews worked to control the fire and clear the scene.
