Calling all animal lovers! Check out Bluebird Farm Alpacas in Somerset County

Well, calling all animal lovers who don't really have plans. This weekend, we've got just the place for you to check out news. 12, New Jersey's Allie Reed and photojournalist, Mike Roberts, take us to Bluebird Farm, Alpacas in for this week's road trip. Close to home. Well, if you're looking for a place to truly get immersed in the full alpaca experience, I have the perfect place to do so. I think Iona would agree to this week. We are in New Jersey at Bluebird Farm, Alpacas. It's gonna be a good one. We are an Alpaca farm located in New Jersey. The Alpacas sit on about 15 acres and we're surrounded by a couple 100 acres of farm land. Incredibly cute, warm and fuzzy. Yeah, that's my favorite thing to do is kiss them. They're extremely kissable. They're very smart, but they tend to be a little independent minded. So this is Nirvana. This is Pearl. You like that? It's pretty good, huh? So there's a perfect alpaca for everybody. They all have different personalities just like we do. We're having to stare down. So we tend to match people up. Those that are a little sassy. Those that are a little mellow. Those that might be feeling like their royalty. It all depends on the alpaca. We're really here to provide everyone with smiles and giggles and laughs and that's what people come here to do. They really enjoy the alpacas. It taste good. We have a total of 20 alpacas. So there's lots of alpacas to go around. Well, yeah, that's pretty good. Huh? You get to go in and interact with them and feed them. So I notice when you pat them they're a little dusty. But you say that there's a reason for that, correct? Alpacas, take dust bows to maintain their fiber. There are those that also opt sometimes to go on to walk in Alpaca. How am I doing, Mike? It's not just the mom who raises the baby and takes care of them. It's the entire herd. All the aunts and uncles want to come up and say hi and you know, introduce themselves, you know. So right away once they're born, they're like a part of the herd. Most alpacas produce as much as £10 of fiber every year and we harvest that fiber usually in the first week or so of May. We then distribute those skeins of yarn to local artisans who knit and crochet and weave and felt. They make all kinds of wonderful things, whether they're hats or scarfs, et cetera. This table immediately caught my eye when I came in here. Each item has been made from our alpacas. This is a great example. This is two different colors and each item on the table has a label on it which tells you which Alpaca produced the fiber. You can come to the farm, you can meet an Alpaca and then you can wear that Alpaca or as we like to say, you can go from field to fashion. We really enjoy really just seeing how much fun these little kids have and even the adults, I mean, it's across the spec, everybody enjoys spending time with these guys.
