A person accused of making anti-Muslim calls, targeting mosques across Connecticut, has been arrested, the Connecticut chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations said Wednesday.
The organization said the person targeted the Islamic Center of Vernon, the Bridgeport Islamic Community Center, the Farmington Valley American Muslim Center, the Islamic Center of Connecticut and Masjid Samiya.
CAIR-CT says the calls reportedly contained anti-Muslim, anti-Arab and ethnic slurs targeting houses of worship and their congregations.
The person, who CAIR-CT did not identify, was arrested by Vernon police following an investigation. News 12 has reached out to police for more information and is waiting to hear back.
"This arrest sends an important message that those who target houses of worship with hate and intimidation will be held accountable. While we are encouraged by this development, it also highlights the alarming rise in anti-Muslim incidents both nationally and here in Connecticut. Over the past year, CAIR-Connecticut has responded to multiple incidents involving harassment and discrimination targeting mosques, Muslim students in our schools, and members of our community. Hate directed at any faith community threatens the safety and values of all Connecticut residents," said Farhan Memon, chairman of CAIR-CT.
Memon is calling on local, state and federal officials to speak against anti-Muslim hate and religious bigotry.
A report by CAIR found that there were over 8,000 anti-Muslim bias complaints in 2025, the highest number recorded by the organization since it began publishing civil rights reports 30 years ago.
