Bullets flew outside Asbury Park Middle School Wednesday, leaving one man on life support.Police have identified the victim as 18-year-old Tylik Pugh, who is believed to be a student at Asbury Park High School. The shooting occurred at the corner of Summerfield and Prospect avenues, which is just feet away from Asbury Park Middle School. The school was forced into lockdown as police canvassed the area. The area of Bangs Avenue near the school is known for gang activity and violent retaliation. Many residents say they think the violence has escalated into more than local police can handle. In order for state police to be brought in to assist local police, the city would need to make a request to the attorney general's office. That request has yet to be made.
