Nearly two months after part of a wall collapsed along Laconia Avenue and closed a Bronx supermarket, plans are in the works to get cash registers ringing again.
Landlord Kondos George, of Laconia Properties, says he is working with the insurance company to reopen Associated Supermarket. The supermarket is also taking bids from contractors. George says once the payment issue is settled, repairs should take no longer than two months. Many nearby residents, especially those without cars in the Edenwald Houses, say they?ve been inconvenienced by the closure.
George says an engineering company found that extreme heat and the weight from a Associated Supermarket sign caused the wall to collapse.
